View larger image of 'Succulent and Xerophytic Plants of Madagascar'Rauh, Werner -  Succulent and Xerophytic Plants of Madagascar
These are the marvellous two volumes from the person who knew the islands so well for forty years starting from the time before the large scale loss of habitat really took hold. Volume 1 covers the North and central Plateau areas of succulent plants, and volume 2 continues in to the southern and southwest areas. A wide variety of plants are included, many highly regarded by Cactus etc growers whilst a few of the zerophytic species may be unfamiliar but none the less fascinating. These large format volumes are sumptuously illustrated with many good colour photos, and are a delight to look at. 12 ¼ x 9 ¼ Volume 1 1995 - 343 pages, Volume 2 1998 - 385 pages Please note that Strawberry Press books are quite heavy and vulnerable to their corners being "bumped" in transit. I’m afraid that I cannot guarantee that there is no minor bumping on the copies I supply, but for those books with more serious damage I have reduced the price accordingly.

View larger image of 'Gymnocalycium in Habitat and Culture'Charles, Graham -  Gymnocalycium in Habitat and Culture
A welcome new book on a popular genus of Cacti from a well known author in the Cactus Plant World. Based on his extensive experience of cultivating these plants and observing them in habitat, the book is written in his usual informative and easy to read style. After brief introductory sections on their history, characteristics, classification, cultivation, habitat and distribution, the bulk of the book covers the 56 species that he recognises. For each species and recognised sub-species there is a full description, etymology (meaning of the species name), distribution with a map, conservation status, history, commentary and cultivation information. The 624 colour illustrations cover the typical countryside they live in as well as plants in habitat, historic illustrations and plants in cultivation, and show some of the variation in the species. Final sections cover further reading, references, chromosome counts, cristate and variegated plants and Graham’s collection numbers. All that the grower would want. 2009 11 ¼ x 8 ½ 288 pages

This is Gordon’s attempt to popularise a group of somewhat overlooked plants, and whilst subtitled “A grower’s guide to the succulent species of Senecio & Othonna”, as you’d expect he does also cover the history and morphology of the plants in his easy going manner. The succulent species and forms are individually covered in detail and are illustrated with colour photos and the occasional reproduction of an historic print. 1994 10 ¼ x 7 ¼ 238 pages Please note that Strawberry Press books are quite heavy and vulnerable to their corners being bumped in transit. View larger image of 'Adenium: Sculptural Elegance, Floral Extravagance'Dimmitt, Joseph & Palzkill -  Adenium: Sculptural Elegance, Floral Extravagance
A welcome book on these increasingly popular flowering and architectural plants. Although it isn’t a formal revision of the genus, the authors take a splitters view of the species and each is described with habitat, cultivation and flower detail. A large part – about 1/3rd – is devoted to the current hybrids and there are quite long chapters on culture and propagation. Written by three enthusiasts who have good experience of growing the plants, the book is well illustrated with 490 colour photos. 2009 9 ½ x 7 ¼ 152 pages

View larger image of 'Jatropha'Pritchard ed Lawant -  Jatropha
A useful book on a poorly known Genus, it is based on the draft started by Albert Pritchard who had seen plants in habitat and cultivated as wide a range of species as was possible. With Albert’s death Pjotr Lawant completed it and brought it up to date in the same style that Albert had used. 71 more or less succulent species are covered, along with cultivation, glossary, literature, list of all species and synonyms with a good number of colour photos, historic botanic illustrations and sketches. 2017 11 ½ x 8 ¼ 100 pages
